By 2007 they had somehow decided on quite a lengthy name for the museum and memorial - "National September 11 Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center".

Now come on!....Who is actually going to refer to the memorial/museum like that?
Now eight years after the tragic events of 9/11, they've decided to change the name of the exhibits...again.
"9/11 Memorial" and "9/11 Memorial Museum". That rolls off the tongue a little bit easier.
Although the the identity of the memorial and museum has changed, the legal name of the non-profit organization still remains to be the National September 11 Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center.
What is the point of starting a foundation that has a name so long people can't even remember it? Also, I feel like the branding/ logos across the spectrum of foundation, memorial and museum should be a little more cohesive. People need to be able to recognize easier that it's the 9/11 blah blah blah foundation that is building this memorial.

thanks for posting this, i had not seen it. what about the marks for the foundation, memorial and museum do you think should be more cohesive? i couldn't find visual examples of the branding for each. you have a point with the name, but that is verging out of our realm of expertise as designers. i think they could have used some editorial or business planning help on that one. the logotype for the main website is very nice: elegant and refined.
