The impact of the internet on branding and packaging

Check out this short article
It's about the involvement of e-commerce (shopping online) with the dissolution of brands and packaging. Who cares how a label looks, or a package feels, when you're point-and-click-ing. It's really quite interesting to think about the way things like Amazon, Zappos, eBay... and if you're into videogames like me, things like WiiWare, Playstation Store, or Xbox Arcade are shifting shopping experiences. Sometimes I forget how directly tied to money design, more specifically branding, can be. Though this article isn't quite like Kyle's, it calls more for the adaptation of branding, and less for the elimination of it. Just something to think about next time you're on Amazon.
