Group Paper Plate. Dustin.

  1. Conceptually,
I think that you are definitely making an observation about the fact that recycling is also a factor in the production and method of discarding paper plates. I think that you are implying the "Cradle to Cradle" philosophy (which we have a statement about on our vending machine in my Design studio) which basically proposes that everything that we produce as human beings should be designed with its future purpose or "next life" already built into its construction. You took my completely dark and negative perspective, and shined a brighter light on it.

    Aesthetically,
I feel like you kind of understood my style for the first postcard, because you (maybe unintentionally) responded with similar stylistic treatment for the second... (overlay, etc.) Although it has the addition of text to further clarify the meaning. I like the simple and stark type, the use of overlay, and the simplicity of the composition in relation to the dense, textural imagery behind it.

However, in relation to the Hierarchy of Design Problems model that we are learning about... (which you can view here: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Ha4zpFQs1EE/StuXfmOzUPI/AAAAAAAACDs/aKOCSwpOmA4/s1600-h/hierarchy-design-problems.jpg) I spoke with my Professor (Jamie Gray) about the fact that this interpretation is reading as a part of the Products level... But just barely. You didn't expand upon the kinds of images/objects that the card was composed of, which is totally fine, I just will be making a greater jump from the Products level to the systems level. But, on the other hand, this is based on what I gave you, as well as what you sent me back, so... (As is the nature of a two-way dialogue) On that note, I will have to also say that I did compose mine nearer to the products level, which may have made it difficult for you to produce anything much higher than the products level. ...Just an interesting observation.

I really like that you payed close attention to the aesthetic and stylistic decisions of my first postcard, and really maintained a constructively critical approach to responding to my work. I can see that you are observant of those kinds of details. I also noted your responses to Rick, Carly, and Lance, my fellow studiomates, and am getting to know your sense of critique and method of message-making.
