Mike, you gotta Facebook me. this project is creeping me out
Anyways, I'd like to be able to have either a bit more conversation or non at all. This will make for an interesting process. Also, you should make a personal blog.
Not much to go with on the sort of comment so I'll just explain what I was attempting to do. I had a difficult time forming any sort of response to the image that was provided. Eventually I started to get a sense of anger and insecurity and this is when I envisioned a story. I started to visualize someone trying to steal someone's debit card but instead of actually taking the physical card that tried to make a fast impression of the card. I tried to convey that more and more a person's identity is wrapped around their card and by stealing a person's card you are actually stealing their life and identity.
i stopped at "not much to go with" for the record. I read your other comment.
let me explain
I've experienced some frustration with this process but I'm over it. You seem to be an active participant here. So here is the feedback.
You interpreted the image correctly. The dirty rubbing of my debit card was supposed to look kinda creepy. I guess I'm frustrated because when I'm working on the product and components level it gets a bit trite. I feel like you would agree with this statement, and that you are also feeling a bit of frustration.
So lets take a step
what is more interesting than your interpretation is the fact that we are both feeling this frustration because of the limitations of the media. When I heard the word blog I expected someone to be constantly responding and I was sure that we were all given the necessary contact information. As silly as it seems, I was confused to find out that I could hardly contact you at all. It all seems so quiet on the web. Frustrations aside- I think I am making some interesting observations. Its funny how the silence has deepened our conversation.
Lets talk about your image
I see you've incorporated mine. It looks like a bunch of scribbles doesn't it? It seems like you have used it in your own little semiotic system.
The mask- an index? icon? symbol? I'm going to say its an indexical item of clothing for a thief. Thats the initial thought that comes to me, and thats perfectly fine. After all it was supposed to be a creepy message right?
Okay, and the U...you??? horse shoe? magnet? circulation? its a mystery by itself but next to your other images it seems to have some context. I like how it is simple; it needs no explanation beside the chicken scratch/hands and the ski mask.
What about those hands... are they necessary? perhaps I should just do a better one for you that looks a little more recognizable.
I'm not trying to be hypercritical on these hands but I don't believe you would need them if the original image were a bit more clear. After all they look kind of silly amongst the angry U and ski mask.
well their is your starter. I'll keep writing more about the meaning of my image for you. But keep in mind that our teachers have put us in this blogging community for a reason. They have foreseen the problems we have experienced. I'm sure we aren't the only ones encountering lag time on the responses. How long did it take you to check my blog?
why didn't you facebook me? I found out that we weren't supposed to a little after my last post but you still could have said something like "hey asshole answer my post". I do feel pretty bad about it but I think we can move on. My teacher said that this was supposed to be fun and I'm having fun. Just keep checking my blog and don't hesitate to post or email. It takes just a few seconds--its the internet
My one other comment about your image is that it is maintaining the dark feeling that we want for this message. This seems to be forming a descent communication model. To me our subject is a bit of a one liner these days but if you think about it ____its really fucked up and at the same time so interesting how very anonymous our identities can be.
I do feel like being a citizen of the united states we should be entitled to our privacy, but I'm pretty sure that my life might be about as transparent as our countries representatives. A debit card is a different part of my identity but its definitely not the most important.
Think about what we broadcast daily
all of our online accounts. Twitter is like a view to a kill; facebook is the ultimate profiler; youtube- overrated tool for an identity thief but its still video.
and everyone in the world can see it.
I notice all the time that our blogs are largely not viewed. I've had under 200 views on mine.
I'm hitting enter alot
When I talk about all of these iconic online accounts that kids have these days, I like to bring up the comparison of two types of media
cnn tv broadcast (random news channel-insert your favorite channel)
vs
the newspaper
these forms of media are both filled with rhetoric but the difference is that tv is a passive way to gather information and reading is an aggressive way.
I know there is typography in television. Its happening more and more, especially the new mac n dons commercials. But is it truly reading?
I'd like to debate this point but I'm stuck on how this relates so gimme a shout out
If anything the lag-time was probably a good thing for this process. I'm glad you became so frustrated that you had to form your own conclusion or scenario from this clue.
True- we created the images for this project in a short of time as you did. That is we did it in class for the most part. So don't worry, the crudeness is just a necessary byproduct of our interaction. We had to get that stuff out for the simple purpose of starting the conversation.
When we move up the ladder we will become more sophisticated and visually appealing. But for now we will simply continue to exchange words and images, and hopefully we will form a system.

By the way I've been I class for awhile so I'm sorry about the delay again.
