Yeti Snowboards

Shon Tanner - Graduated from high school in 2004. Was accepted into the IDEA program at Capliano University and was later an exchange student at the Bisen School of Illustration and Design in Sapporo, Japan.

Yeti Snowboards - I am going to assume this was a company Shon made up for a school project because I was unable to find a website or anything. So lets just assume it is an operating company that produces snowboards and other products related to.

I'll admit now that I picked something a little conservative for my first post. That said I do like the work Shon did for this company. I find it to be a good example of having a fairly ordinary idea for a snowboard company but being able to take the idea and executing it properly so that it is still an elegant and appropriate solution. He does a good job of capturing the feel of the company and successfully carries the solution throughout the bag, annual report, casing, and letterheads. I also like what he did with the typography against the mountain to create a distinct and recognizable image for the company.

  1. I would not say that this is conservative. The type is quite experimental. It would be interesting to hear what the designer had to say about the inspiration for the type. I question it's legibility, but I think with a little more refinement it could work. Ironically, I think the annual report is perhaps the most successful in capturing the energy of snow boarding.

  2. I checked his site and he doesn't say anything about the project. I'll try and email him and see if he wouldn't mind sharing his process.

  3. I agree with the comment about the annual report. Everything else seems a little lack luster to me. I noticed how a lot of things now a days are going for the simple clean look and I think that attempting to use it here fell a little short given the subject of snowboarding.
